Process of Digestion

 Process of Digestion

-> Food is taken by the mouth and chewed with teeth then mixup with saliva.

-> Saliva secreted by the salivary glands. There are three salivary glands

1. Parotid salivary glands,

2. Submandibular salivary glands

3. Sublingual Salivary glands

-> Salivary glands secrete saliva. Saliva has enzymes that break down complex foods into small particles which are easy to digest.

-> Food then passes into the esophagus (Oesophagus is food pipe)

-> Food then goes to the pharynx and pushes to the stomach.

-> Stomach secretes the gastric juice which helps in the digestion of food.

-> Parietal cell of the stomach produces HCL(gastric juice). Then the food goes to the small intestine. Where 70% of food is absorbed.

-> Liver produced the bile acids bile stored in the gall bladder. Bile emulsifies the fatty acid(fats).

-> Most of the food is absorbed in the small intestine and then goes to the large intestine(colon).

-> In the large intestine, the salt and water are reabsorbed and undigested food is gone to the anus for expelling out from the body.
